Admitted to practice in 2015, Gilbert’s clients trust him with the care and conduct of their commercial litigation matters. He represents clients in all NSW Courts and Tribunals, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and the Federal Court of Australia.

Gilbert acts for creditors, individuals and companies in bankruptcy, liquidation, administration and receivership matters. Creditors instruct him to recover a variety of debts that are large, small, secured and/or unsecured. As a part of this area of practice, Gilbert maintains professional relationships with leading trustees and insolvency practitioners.

Gilbert is an outcomes focused lawyer who prides himself on understanding his client’s business and legal needs in order to obtain the best results. Prior to joining Bartier Perry, he worked as an in-house lawyer for a large state sporting and community organisation and also across private practice as a commercial litigator.

Career highlights

  • Acting for a client in obtaining a freezing order in Supreme Court of NSW proceedings to restrain a defendant from disposing of assets the subject of those proceedings, so any ultimate judgment would not be frustrated by the defendant.

  • Acting for an Australian publisher in Supreme Court of NSW proceedings against an independent foreign state, and obtaining judgment against that foreign state which resulted in the subsequent settlement of the matter.

  • Presiding as a panel member and Chair over various disciplinary tribunal matters for a state sporting organisation and gazetted emergency service.
